Lithophanes were first invented in the early 1800's. What makes a lithophane so unusual is that it requires light to be seen properly. The image is created not by a film or by paint but by the different thicknesses of the translucent bisque porcelain.

	These candle votives are made in France by Bernardaud of Limoges. In order to facilitate downloads, we have divided the designs into categories. This page includes all of the designs but may be a slow download.
